Calluna vulgaris 'Venus'

For those new to Scotch heather, the secret to its long blooming period is the nature of the flowers. Referred to as bud blooms, they line the upper stems with small, colorful buds that never open, so they are able to withstand inclement weather that may flatten pansies or mums. 'Venus' is a pure white variety with upright stems that can stand one to two feet tall, and spread up to three feet wide. Drought tolerant once established, callunas are fairly low maintenance, and are wonderful front-of-border options, or fillers in year-round container planters. A light trim in late winter to early spring will keep Scotch heather tidy.
