Spiky stems boast "bud blooms" from late summer well into the fall, providing a spot of color when the summer flowers have faded.

Product Description

Calluna 'Amethyst' bears the characteristic bud blooms of this branch of the heather family, sporting countless pink buds that never open, and thus have staying power, sometimes into the winter. Stems that can grow 12 to 18 inches tall and about as wide form a spiky mound of deep green, needle-like foliage. The flower buds line these stems, creating a colorful mound starting in late summer. Drought tolerant once established, calluna is fairly low maintenance (a light pruning after the buds fade will maintain a more compact form), and provides year-round interest in rock gardens, borders, container planters, and hanging baskets.
