Just when all the summer annuals are beginning to fade, this Scotch Heather struts its stuff, with white bud blooms densely lining semi-upright stems. This is a great filler for hanging baskets and container planters, especially the year-round ones, as 'Veluwe' stays fresh and green through all the seasons. Drought tolerant once established and usually deer-resistant, it is a low-maintenance sub-shrub that does well in borders, xeriscapes, and areas with less-than-fertile soil. Place callunas in as sunny a spot as possible, and give them a light shearing in late winter to early spring to keep them tidy.
