The beauty of bunching onions, aka scallions or green onions, is there's no need to thin them, and if just the tops are harvested (cut one inch above ground), they will continue to grow, producing more green tops. 'Parade' is non-bulb forming with straight greenery, so it's easy to harvest with just a bit of loosening of the soil. If just the greens are taken, give the cut bulbs a bit of nitrogen fertilizer to encourage regrowth.
