Basil 'Lettuce Leaf'

Lettuce Leaf basil is characterized by crinkly leaves that resemble lettuce leaves in size and texture. Mild enough to be used as "greenery" in salads and sandwiches, this variety also works well as a wrap. Lettuce Leaf basil forms an upright mound, one to two feet tall and wide, and is slower to bolt than other varieties. Harvest no more than one-third of the plant at a time in order to encourage more growth. Basil is not cold tolerant, so be sure to harvest the entire plant prior to fall freeze.

Culinary Uses: Use fresh in salads, sandwiches, or as wraps. May be used for pesto or in cooked sauces.

Harvest Time: Pluck individual leaves as needed, taking only 1/3 of plant at a time.
