Grow this specimen as much for the striking foliage as for the puffballs of purple flowers that appear in the fall and spring.
Product Description
Product Description
The common names of Blue Mist and Purple Torch reference the unusual flower clusters that emerge in the fall and spring, but the foliage of this specimen makes it a worthy addition to gardens with a tropical vibe. Large, heavily-veined, matte green leaves contrast beautifully against maroon stems that generally grow three to five feet tall and wide, but can reach eight feet in height, given an ideal environment. Originating from subtropical cloud forests of Mexico, Purple Torch does best with morning sun and afternoon shade, or all-day dappled sun. It handles moisture well, but is frost-sensitive, so it will need additional protection in the winter. Purple Torch may do well in coastal gardens.
