Athyrium otophorum 'Okanum'

We're not sure what's most charming about this particular fern - the quirky common names (not sure where ears come into play), the dark red stems, or the changing colors of the fronds as them move from just emerging red to fully grown green. It's a wonderful package, full of character and a standout among ferns. Only one to two feet tall and wide, 'Okanum' does well in shady borders, container planters, or hanging baskets. Sadly, this one is deciduous, so it will die down in the fall, but returns with renewed vigor in the spring.
