Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum' 4 inch

This Japanese Painted Fern will add elegance to shady garden borders, container planters, and hanging baskets. Newly emerging, lance-shaped fronds have a silvery cast that contrasts beautifully against burgundy colored stems. Though definitely needing shade in the afternoon, this fern's coloring is best with some sun - either morning sun or all-day dappled exposure. The Japanese Painted Fern will eventually grow up to 18 inches tall and a bit wider with graceful arching fronds that take on greener hues as the weather warms. It will die down to the ground as the temperatures drop, but returns with vigor the following spring.
