Vibrant orange flowers will attract humans, hummingbirds, and possibly Monarch butterflies. It's not their favorite variety, but it will do in a pinch!
Product Description
Product Description
Fun fact: Common and Swamp Milkweeds (A. syriaca and A. incarnata, respectively) contain the chemicals that make Monarch caterpillars unpalatable to birds and other prey, so they attract the highest number of Monarch butterflies. Does this mean they'll snub Asclepias tuberosa? No, it just doesn't attract as many, and this variety does attract hummingbirds, other butterflies, and pollinators - always a good thing. Better yet, it's an attractive perennial with bright orange flowers from spring up until fall, so humans can enjoy them as well. One caveat: Asclepias tend to be aphid magnets, so wash them off with soapy water or an eco-friendly pesticide such as neem.
