Artemisia 'Powis Castle'

Wormwood has many dark connotations due in part to its bitter taste, and has been associated with suffering, witchcraft, and mystical doings in fairy tales. Artemisia 'Powis Castle,' aka Wormwood Powis Castle, couldn't be further removed from such things, with its slivery, fern-like, evergreen foliage that adds a wonderful texture and pop of color to the garden. Typically two to three feet tall and wide, it can spread wider if given free reign, so pruning back stems in late fall or early spring will keep it in check. Leave 12 to 18 inch branches and do not prune down to the ground. Drought tolerant once established and usually ignored by deer and rabbits, 'Powis Castle' is an attractive, low-maintenance shrub for the sunny garden.
