Aristaloe aristata Quart

Many exotic succulents are often betwixt and between living indoors and out in the Portland metro area because they may like the sun, but can't handle freezing temps and/or frost. Soggy roots and clay soils often spell death for these desert dwellers so we encourage owners of plants such as the Lace aloe to grow them in a pot with well-draining soil. They can be moved outdoors in the summer then retreat to warmer, dryer climes in the winter, kind of like snow birds!
Though its common name implies that it's in the same genus as the aloe plants we use as burn soothers, Lace aloe is literally in a classification of its own, and is closer to haworthias in growth and looks than  Aloe vera. Thick, spot-covered leaves grow vertically in a rosette, often reaching eight inches tall and almost as wide. Pups will form at the base of the "parent" and can be moved to their own pots.    
One tip: when watering your Lace aloe, don't water into the rosette, as this may lead to fungal diseases. Water the soil thoroughly, then wait to water again until the top inch of soil is dry.
