Dark green foliage ages to deep burgundy as the season progresses, turning a purple-black color by fall.
Product Description
Product Description
'Blackhawks' Big Bluestem grass provides a big vertical presence in the summer garden, standing four to five feet tall in one- to two-foot wide clumps, with dark green foliage gradually morphing to near-black by summer's end. As a native prairie grass, 'Blackhawks' does best in full sun and under-fertilized soil. Use this as a back-of-border specimen, and en masse, can serve as a seasonal privacy barrier or provide erosion control. Drought tolerant once established, it is also deer-resistant. Three-fingered, purple plumes emerge in the summer, earning this grass another nickname of Turkeyfoot grass, and can be used in dried flower arrangements.
