Growing only one to two feet tall and wide, African Mask, aka Amazonian Elephant's Ear, is nevertheless a statement piece for the indoor garden. Large, arrowhead-shaped leaves stand upright, making it an exotic choice for the "thriller" in a mixed container planter, or a spectacular specimen on its own. A well-lit room, higher humidity than normally found in most homes, and thorough watering when the top inch of soil is dry will keep alocasias looking their best. As it true of many tropical plants, African Mask can cause gastric distress if ingested by chewing pets.
