This Southern Maidenhair fern has the same black stems as Northern Maidenhair ferns but the individual leaflets (pinnae) are arranged in flat planes on downward arching stems.
Product Description
Product Description
Common features among Maidenhair ferns include thin black stems, airy fronds made up of small leaflets, and their tolerance of deep shade. The Southern Maidenhair fern has small wedge-shaped leaflets forming flat planes on downward arching stems. Spreading slowly by underground rhizomes, all Maidenhair ferns do best in consistently moist soil and can handle deep shade, dappled shade, or morning sun with afternoon shade. Unlike the Pacific NW native Western Maidenhair (Adiantum aleuticum), the Southern maidenhair fern dies back in the winter, emerging in the spring.
