Acer palmatum 'Mikawa Yatsubusa'

Part of the allure of Japanese maples are their structural forms, and 'Mikawa Yatsubusa' maple is unique in the formation of its leaves. Short stems on the leaves and compact branching create a dense, layered look, with a somewhat irregular, bushy form. New growth emerges yellow-green in the spring, deepens to green in the summer then takes on autumn colors as the temps drop. Protect this specimen from the late afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch and keep it well-watered during the hot weather. This is an excellent choice for a container planter, including bonsai, due in part to its unique looks, but also its ultimately dwarf stature and slow growth.
