You'll have to take our word for it, but this 'Matrix' Asiatic lily is pretty darn spectacular when the funnel-shaped, four-inch across, red-orange flowers finally begin to bloom. Multiple flowers grace the top of the single stem that stands 12 to 24 inches tall and spreads up to a foot wide. This dwarf variety works well in borders, container planters, and even hanging baskets, putting on a show of vibrant color in late spring to early summer. Because the flowers are at the top of the stem, consider planting 'Matrix' directly behind other lower growing plants such as heucheras or iberis. Summer annuals planted at the base of the lily will transition a container from spring color into summer, once the lily's blooms disappear. Like most bulbs, Asiatic lilies put on a show for only a few weeks but the flowers can be cut and brought indoors. Beware the anthers, however, for they will stain fabric. Oh, and not to disappoint, but 'Matrix' flowers are not fragrant.

The beauty of asiatic lilies is that they come back year after year with no particular effort on the gardener's part. Just plant them in a sunny spot with good drainage, and your job is done!
