Sturdy enough to be halved, basted with oil, then put on the grill, just until the edges of leaves begin to char. YUM!

Close'Red Romaine' lettuce is as delicious as its green counterpart, and is also a show-stopper as an ornamental in hanging baskets, container planters, and in the ground. Individual leaves may be harvested for consumption, taking up to a third of the plant at one time. Growing to about a foot tall and wide, the whole head may be harvested by cutting it off about two inches above the soil. New baby leaves will grow from the stalk, though not as vigorously. Though it handles full sun during the spring and fall, 'Red Romaine' will fair better if it gets shade at the hottest time of day in summer.
