Close'Queen of Hearts' oakleaf hydrangea is quite simply a stunning specimen when mature, with dense, oakleaf shaped foliage and large, conical summer flowers that emerge white then age to pink. This variety may be able to start out in container planters, but at maturity, 'Queen of Hearts' can grow five to six feet tall and six to nine feet wide, and really needs to move out into the garden for maximum growth. The foliage is dense and green during the summer, then takes on fall colors as the temperatures drop, making it an excellent summer time hedge or privacy screen. 'Queen of Hearts' produces blooms on the previous year's growth, so if any pruning is needed, do so immediately after it blooms. And of course, don't hesitate to cut flowers and foliage to bring indoors. Best of all, this variety can grow in full sun, all-day dappled sun, or partial shade, and will do well in almost any exposure.
