Hardy fuchsias are a mainstay of shade gardens, bringing color and texture to summer gardens with relative ease. 'Dying Embers' fuchsia is a mid-sized, upright shrub with dark green leaves, purple stems, and flowers with reddish-pink sepals surrounding a deep purple corolla. Averaging two feet tall and wide, 'Dying Embers' will be eye-catching along garden walks, in mixed borders, and in container planters. As is true of most fuchsias, morning sun or all-day dappled sun will produce the most blooms, and protection from the hottest afternoon sun will prevent scorching. Fall frost will kill the foliage and blooms, and the remaining stems should be trimmed back to within one or two buds on older wood in late winter/early spring.
