CloseEuonymuses are extremely popular in the Portland Metro area, with good reason. Evergreen and fairly low maintenance, varieties range from ground-cover height up to ten feet tall, with attractive variegated leaves that look good year-round. 'Silver King' euonymus has glossy green leaves edged in creamy white, forming upright shrubs five to six feet tall and up to three feet wide. This variety is often used for hedges or as foundation plants, although it is a splendid topiary subject and does well in large container planters. Euonymuses are fairly forgiving about soil, are somewhat drought-tolerant once established, and can handle coastal conditions as well.
