CloseOne common lament about ornamental grasses is that they tend to look unruly by season's end. Tufted Hair Grass may be an exception to that problem and in fact, often provides fall interest with its thin, variegated blades taking on gold and pink tones. 'Northern Lights' is on the smaller side as well, growing anywhere from 12 to 36 inches tall and wide, with seed panicles rising above the foliage in summer. This semi-evergreen variety tolerates partial shade as well as somewhat boggy conditions, so consider growing 'Northern Lights' near pond edges.
