Tuberous dahlias are admittedly gorgeous, and they're a lot of work as well. For those who love the dahlia blooms but don't want the extra work, consider growing the Dahlia Dahlinova 'Hypnotica Yellow.' Treated as an annual in the Pacific NW, this variety is quite prolific, sending up bright yellow dahlia flowers all summer long. 'Hypnotica Yellow' grows to a manageable 18" tall and wide, and may benefit from a bit of support. This is an excellent choice for cut-flower gardens as well as large container planters.
