The bright orange, cigar-shaped flowers attract gardeners almost as much as they draw hummingbirds, and will last right up until frost.

CloseNicknamed Firecracker Plant, this cuphea is primarily orange with touches of red and yellow, and honestly, it's probably the most sought-after cuphea in the nursery. Yes, there are other varieties that clearly have their own charm, but hummingbirds seem to find this one first and will try to guard the plant against other hummers throughout the growing season. Averaging two feet tall and almost as wide, this cuphea produces plenty of blooms to go around, but then, hummingbirds are territorial! 'Vermillionaire' performs best in the sun and requires no deadheading, so place this hummingbird magnet along walkways in container planters, hanging baskets, or in sunny borders.
