CloseVenturing into the world of the Marantaceae family is like finding an author whose books you really enjoy reading and, happy day, is really prolific. Commonly referred to as prayer plants because of the leaves' tendencies to fold upward at night, marantas, calatheas, stromanthes and ctenanthes (pronounced TEE-nanthes or tee-NANTH-ees) are all related with similar traits from one species to the other, and with what seems like dozens of varieties within each species. 'Golden Mosaic' is a true standout with random splashes of lime-green to gold striations along elliptical leaves. This variety typically grows 18 to 36 inches tall and 24 to 48 inches wide at maturity, and would make a spectacular indoor specimen. As is true to the genus, this tropical houseplant likes high humidity, well-lit environments, handles underwatering better than soggy roots, and is considered pet-friendly
