This crassula's botanical name is a tongue-twister, so ask for Crassula Watch Chain, Crassula Lizard's Tail, or Crassula Rattail.

CloseWe can understand the common names of Rattail and Lizard's Tail, but honestly, watch chains are a thing of the past, and would modern-day folks understand the reference? All these nicknames refer to the scale-like, narrow upright stems of this crassula that typically grow eight to 12 inches tall and can eventually spread 18 to 24 inches wide. Too tender to live outdoors in Pacific NW winters, many folks grow this one as a houseplant year-round, although it may benefit from getting outdoors in the summer. It is a wonderful textural addition to indoor succulent planters and adds some height as well. This African native doesn't like being overwatered anymore than it likes being cold, so water thoroughly only when the top inch or two of soil is dry to the touch.
