When seeking a houseplant that tolerates low light, many gardeners turn to the sansevieria, or snake plant family. While many varieties do adapt to low light exposures, there are some that will frankly, lose their charm. Case in point, 'Moonshine' Sansevieria is an eye-catching pale green variety that often borders on a silvery gray. Extremely broad, sword-like leaves can eventually grow to five feet tall, but only if given enough light. If kept in too dark a room, 'Moonshine' will most likely lose that lovely pale coloring and revert to a darker green. All sansevierias are fine with snug-fitting pots, but do not overwater or let the plants sit in standing water. 'Moonshine' Sansevieria will look its best when grown in a well-lit room and watered thoroughly only when the top inch of soil is dry.
