CloseSeasoned gardeners are used to seeing coleus plants as upright mounds of spectacular color and texture, so they're somewhat surprised when they come across trailing coleus varieties such as 'FC Shocker.' Mounding up to 24 inches tall, it can spread up to 28 inches, forming a cascading carpet of red and gold-green. Plant this coleus on the edge of hanging baskets or container planters destined for a shadier spot in the garden, and pair with tuberous begonias or perennial grasses for pops of color and contrasting textures. Don't hesitate to pinch out the tips of stems to control the height and don't be surprised when the gold edges of 'FC Shocker' turn lime green as the plant matures.
