This Hinoki Cypress is like a toddler, starting out plump and rounded, then gradually growing into a broad, dense pyramidal form at maturity.

CloseHinoki cypresses are generally regarded as well-behaved, tidy evergreens and do well in containers (large or bonsai) or as specimens in smaller gardens. The Koster Hinoki Cypress has some of the characteristics common to this family - slow growing, dense, feathery branches that tend to take unusual turns, and the change in foliage color from green to bronze-tinged in the colder months. Growing only three to six inches per year, this variety can live happily in container planters for years, morphing from a more rounded form into a broad pyramid shape at maturity. As a conifer, this Hinoki cypress does best in a sunny location, though it can handle some shade.
