The bold white and deep green striations accentuate the narrow pointed leaves of this unique calathea.

CloseWhen it comes to showy foliage, calatheas are in a class of their own, with markings so clearly defined as to seem artificial. Calathea Vittata is no exception, although it is "merely" a two-colored variety. Long narrow leaves with pointed tips seem even longer due to the bold striations of white and deep green that run the length of the leaves. Often reaching 18" in length, those leaves may become brown on the edges if the air is too dry, so keep this and other calatheas away from heater vents. Another option is to place the pot on a pebble-filled saucer, keeping the saucer filled about half way with water.
