CloseMany experienced Pacific NW gardeners rear back in horror at the mention of butterfly bush, as it is considered invasive in Washington and Oregon. Not to worry, Flutterby Petite Blue Heaven Butterfly Bush is a well-behaved compact deciduous shrub with sterile seeds, bringing all the good things to the garden without the nasty spreading habit. Fuzzy, silvery green leaves form along arching stems that top out around two to three feet tall and wide, with violet blue flowers emerging at the tips from early summer until fall. Clip spent flowers or bring the sweetly scented blooms indoors as a cut flower to encourage even more flower production. Lovely in container planters, along borders and even mass plantings, Flutterby Petite Blue Heaven Butterfly Bush is drought tolerant once established, eschewed by deer and rabbits, and sought out by butterflies and hummingbirds. This shrub will die back in the fall, and can be pruned in early spring to keep the shrub tidy.
