Amethyst basil is described as a Genovese type basil, and though the leaves are almost black, they do indeed look and taste like the classic Italian variety. Grow this beauty in a container planter or hanging basket, on its own or with other herbs. Or, if you're not inclined to eat it, consider planting Amethyst basil with other summer ornamentals. Those dark purple leaves would add a stunning contrast to brighter colored flowers or foliage.
