It's always a thrill for indoor gardeners when they come across specimens that actually bloom indoors, and this Lipstick Vine, aka Zebra Basket Vine, is pretty reliable when given enough indirect light. This one can't be mistaken for its cousin, the Boxleaf Lipstick Vine, because it has dark green leaves that bear a network of lighter green to yellow markings, with purple undersides. Both varieties bloom and grow best when given ample indirect light. Consider moving your Lipstick Vine to a brighter location (or install grow lights) if the stems seem long and stretched with small leaves, as both are indications of insufficient light. This specimen is epiphytic in its native habitat of Malaysia, so plant in well-draining soil and water thoroughly only when the top inch of soil is dry. It also appreciates a higher humidity, so keep away from heat vents and mist periodically, or place the container in a pebble-filled saucer with water added half way.
