Anyone who watched TV in the 60s would understand why this finely-needled, mounding acacia would be named "Cousin Itt."
Available in store
CloseHonestly, this 'Cousin Itt' acacia is something of an anomaly in the Pacific NW. Native to the hot, dry Australian landscape, Little River Wattle (so named because it is a small version of River Wattle acacia) may be best treated as a summer annual in our climate, as it is hardy down to only 20 degrees. That said, it's compact, fine-needled, slightly weeping foliage is so intriguing, 'Cousin Itt' acacia is a worthy addition to container planters and hanging baskets. Like all acacias, this variety does best in full sun and well-draining soil, so consider pairing this with other annuals that can handle life on the dry side, such as portulaca, lantana, or even some succulents.
