Just as tough and reliable as its cousins, this vinca has beautifully variegated leaves along with violet blue flowers.

CloseLesser periwinkle is one of those unsung heroes of year-round gardens. Growing only three to six inches tall, vinca minor spreads as wide as you'll let it, putting down roots as it creeps along hillsides, retaining walls, and just about anywhere you want neat, evergreen ground cover. Deer and rabbit-resistant, it's also drought tolerant once established and will grow in shade to full sun. 'Illumination' stands out with its bright gold leaves edged in deep green, and violet blue periwinkle flowers in the spring and summer. Vinca is a wonderful trailer for year-round baskets and tall container planters, filling out within a season and trailing beautifully. Sunnier locations will produce more flowers, but with 'Illumination' vinca's striking foliage, the flowers are almost superfluous.
