It's always satisfying to see one's perennials reappear in the spring, though it may take some time before they're noticed. 'Azetec Gold' prostrate speedwell is not shy about making its presence known, with chartreuse foliage turning bright gold as the days get sunnier. If that's not enough to attract attention, this tough ground cover sends up blue flower spikes in the spring that bees and butterflies love. Plant 'Aztec Gold' on the edges of container planters and hanging baskets for a pop of color, or along sunny borders and walkways. This variety of veronica stays low, only four to six inches tall, but can spread up to 12 inches wide. Drought tolerant once established, it is not usually troubled by deer, making it a reliable ground cover, year after year.
