Unlike the arborvitae commonly used for privacy barriers, 'Primo' resembles dwarf Hinoki cypresses, both in stature and foliage.

CloseFrankly, we're not big fans of the arborvitae commonly used for privacy barriers and it's unlikely you'll find one in the nursery. However, we'll happily set aside our bias when it comes to Primo Arborvitae, a dwarf, deep green variety that looks more like a Hinoki cypress in texture and size than its massive cousins. An Iseli original, 'Primo' grows slowly into a narrow upright form with dense, deep green foliage in the spring and summer. Not much bigger than four feet tall and a foot wide at the 10-year mark, this dwarf variety is an excellent choice for container planters, including bonsai. The compact foliage will take on bronze tones in the cold weather, making it a striking addition to the fall/winter garden. Place this conifer in full sun and enjoy the natural spire-like profile year-round.
