African violets are so popular as house plants that there is actually an African Violet Society of America ( with loads of really useful information. For instance, logic tells you that any indoor plant that blooms virtually year-round needs plenty of indirect light, but if your African violet has upward growing foliage, that means the plant is reaching for the light and needs more of it. Pots should be a third of the diameter of the plant's spread in order to promote blooms, so a plant with a 6-inch spread should live in a 2-inch pot. And try not to get water on those soft fuzzy leaves. That will result in ugly permanent spots and possibly cause the plant to rot.
