Strawberries are one of the easiest crops to grow in the Pacific NW, providing years of fresh berries from just a few starts. Perhaps the biggest challenge is waiting for the berries to fully ripen while fending off marauding slugs and birds. Earliglow June-bearing strawberries are probably the first to reach the finish line in early June, producing firm, red berries that are excellent fresh or frozen. Consider growing strawberries in hanging baskets or container planters as a practical way of beating the slugs!
