CloseThe grassy foliage of Blue-eyed Grass is reminiscent of Japanese irises but is much daintier in size, averaging six to 12 inches tall, sporting violet-blue, star-shaped flowers in late spring. Unlike irises, Blue-eyed Grass is short-lived but self-sows easily, so there will be new plants to replace the old. Full sun and well-draining soil will keep 'Moody Blues' happy, and does well in container planters, hanging baskets, and the front-of-border areas of the garden. Pollinators love the flowers though deer will usually shun Blue-eyed Grass.
