CloseMother Nature knew what she was doing when she made String of Pearls. A succulent native to Africa, those little pearls give this plant the maximum capacity to store moisture, but that very shape also reduces the leaf area that can absorb sunlight. To counteract that, each "pearl" has a narrow sliver through which additional sunlight can penetrate; it makes each segment look like a pea that can be split. So clever a plant, so fun to grow!
