A very prolific Hens and Chicks, with distinctive white webbing across the rosettes that are a combination of pink and green leaves.

CloseHens and Chicks are often the go-to ground cover for those sunny, under-watered, gravelly spots in the garden. Poorly draining, clay soils may cause the roots of sempervivums to rot out in the winter, so either amend the heck out of area to be planted with succulents or plant them in a raised bed or container. 'Spumanti' is a prolific variety with the added bonus of its unique "spider-webbing" across the tightly formed rosettes. Sempervivums are monocarpic, meaning that when a hen sends up a pink flower spike in summer to fall, that specific hen will die, but the remaining chicks will fill in the space and become hens themselves.
