Close'Mona Lisa' Hens and Chicks not only changes color when the temps drop, but this sturdy evergreen also has a light webbing across the centers of each rosette for added interest and texture. As we've discovered in the nursery, the amount of sun, combined with the temperatures, will often yield different looks in the same variety of Sempervivum. 'Mona Lisa' can go from a dark green when the temps are 65 and above to a dark or brick red in the cold of winter. Pink flowers attract bees and butterflies in the summer, and this particular variety produces lots of chicks. Once a rosette flowers, it will die, but all those little chicks will grow into hens.
