The botanical name actually makes sense, translating loosely to "always living spider web," and those gossamer threads do resemble spider webs!

CloseWhat is hard and hardy but has delicate cobwebby threads crisscrossing its leaves? 'Large Form' Hen and Chicks, a very prolific variety that forms lots of chicks, eventually creating dense mats of these intriguing rosettes. Growing two to four inches tall and able to spread up to 12 inches wide, 'Large Form' does best in full sun and well-draining soil; this is a great addition to container planters and hanging baskets! Water regularly after the initial planting so it can get established, then water thoroughly but infrequently. Cooler temps and shorter days bring out the red in this succulent, adding color and interest to the fall and winter garden.
