Stonecrops are so named because of their ability to grow in rocky, dry soil. One big caveat however, is that all sedums and succulents need time to root in and get established, and that means watering them regularly when first planted. Sedums also need well-draining soil; constantly wet feet, especially in the winter, will most likely cause their roots to rot. While many sedums go dormant in the winter, 'Sea Gold' is a trooper, maintaining its needle-like foliage year-round. Chartreuse green in the spring and summer, the fleshy leaves will pick up red hues in the fall, then revert to green in the winter. An excellent choice for xeriscapes, rock gardens, and retaining walls,'Sea Gold' does equally well in borders, container planters, and hanging baskets. Just give this stonecrop lots of sun and let the soil dry between waterings.
