CloseFragrant Sweet Box should not be confused with its relative, Himalayan Sweet Box. Both are evergreen shade lovers with wonderfully fragrant flowers in late winter to early spring, but Fragrant Sweet Box (Sarcococca ruscifolia) can grow up to five feet tall and just about as wide, while its cousin (Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis) stays low and spreads wide. Small white flowers turn into red, then black berries for added interest. A gentle trim after flowering in the spring will keep Fragrant Sweet Box looking compact and tidy. Please note that this variety may naturalize if it likes its environment.
