We love salvias almost as much as butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds do, and there is a broad spectrum of colors and sizes of plants that will probably meet most gardeners' needs. 'Icon Light Blue' grows into a compact mound, 12" - 16" tall, with dark blue flowers blooming from summer up until frost. This variety is perfect for container planters, hanging baskets, borders, and walkways that have sunny exposures for most of the day. Many salvias are borderline hardy in zones 7 and 8 (Portland Metro area), but we can't always guarantee that they'll return the following year. We're classifying 'Icon Light Blue' as an annual, but don't be surprised if it pops up again in late spring, especially if you choose to grow it in a container that can be sheltered under the eaves or in a garage during the winter months.
