CloseFor those gardeners who are willing to forego year-round foliage, Fern Leaf Buckthorn provides an unusual and intriguing option when a narrow, columnar form is desired. As its common name implies, this specimen has soft fern-like foliage, forming a narrow, dense column of greenery from spring until the fall, making it an attractive seasonal (read deciduous) hedge or privacy screen. Rhamnus 'Fine Line' is a sun-lover, but looks its best when watered regularly, especially if grown in containers. Although purportedly deer-resistant, we have heard that deer will eat Buckthorn if they are hungry enough.
