We usually associate ferns with shady gardens and lower light environments; however, we have discovered that indoor ferns are often happier when placed in a well-lit room. The Ribbon Fern will benefit from a brighter environment, with the variegation on the deeply divided fronds becoming more distinct. The amount of light will also influence the size of this fern that can grow from one to two feet tall and wide, with its clubbed fronds splaying up and out from a dense center. The Ribbon Fern can live outside in a summer shade garden, but be sure to bring it indoors before the outdoor temps drop below 55 degrees.
