Native to Japan, this unusual conifer gets its nickname from the whorls of umbrella-shaped needles that grow at the ends of branches.

Product Description

The Japanese Umbrella Pine is well-suited to the wet Pacific NW weather, preferring to stay evenly moist (but not soggy) with cooler summer temperatures. A slow grower, this evergreen can take up to 10 years to reach five feet in height, so it's a great option for large container planters and bonsai. The long evergreen needles grow in whorls at the ends of branches and branchlets, giving the tree its unique look. The Japanese Umbrella Pine grows best in full sun; however, its needles may scorch in excessively hot weather.
