Sansevierias are a great starter plant for those new to indoor gardening. Tolerant of missed waterings, lower light, and benign neglect, they all seem to hold their own. A well-lit room will produce the best growth and coloring, especially for the variegated varieties. Too low a light and those with golden colors may fade to green. Sansevierias are also tolerant of tight quarters, and can live in the same pot for years with no apparent ill-effects. What will cause issues is too much water, and go easy on the fertilizer - they really don't need much.
